Planning Your Next Adventure? Don’t Forget About This New Passport Hack!
Hey, travelers! As you prepare for an upcoming trip, there’s one crucial item you’ll need—your passport. Luckily, the process just got a whole lot easier thanks to a new online passport renewal system. Here’s what you need to know:

The Lowdown
Forget paper forms and mailing checks. The U.S. State Department now allows passport renewals completely online! This is a game-changer for anyone whose passport expired within the last five years (or is about to).
Why You Should Care:
- Fast and Convenient: Renew your passport 24/7 from your phone or laptop. Just upload your photo, fill out the online form, and pay the fee. No more trips to the post office!
- Processing Time: Expect processing to take around 6-8 weeks.
Eligibility Requirements
To renew your passport online, you must meet the following criteria:
- The passport you are renewing is or was valid for 10 years, and you are age 25 or older.
- The passport was issued between 2009 and 2015, or is over 9 years but less than 15 years from the date you plan to submit your application.
- You are not changing your name, gender, date of birth, or place of birth.
- You are not traveling for at least 8 weeks from the date you submit your application. Routine service will be offered, and processing time will be the same as renewing by mail.
- You are applying for a regular (tourist) passport. Special issuance (diplomatic, official, service) passports cannot be renewed online.
- You live in the United States (either state or territory). If you live in a foreign country or have an Army Post Office (APO) or Fleet Post Office (FPO) address, you do not qualify for online renewal.
- You have your passport with you, and it is not damaged or mutilated, and you have not reported it as lost or stolen. Keep your most recent passport and do not mail it to us.
- You can pay for your passport using a credit or debit card.
- You can upload a digital passport photo.
- You are aware that your passport will be canceled after you submit your application and cannot be used for international travel.
Why Now?
With international travel booming, getting your passport in order should be at the top of your checklist. You don’t want to miss your flight because of an expired passport!
While you’re making plans and packing your bags, take a moment to check your passport status. If it needs a refresh, hop online and get it done! ✈️
