The 5 Stages of Senioritis (And How Your Grad Trip Fixes Every One)

Senioritis. You swore it wouldn’t happen to you, but here you are, staring blankly at your Google Doc while mentally picturing yourself in a cap and gown. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Every senior goes through it. And luckily, there’s a cure on the horizon (hint: it involves a plane ticket and your best friends).

Let’s break it down:

Stage 1: Denial

“Senioritis? Couldn’t be me.”

You’re still pretending you’ll stay on top of everything. You highlight your notes, open your laptop, maybe even join the study group chat. But deep down, you know your brain has already clocked out. We don’t blame you, it’s November. You’ll blink and it’ll be Christmas break, and after that you’ll be a second semester senior which is basically the same thing as being a graduate.

Grad Trip Fix: Accept it… everyone goes through this. Remember, even though it might seem like the last few assignments don’t matter, they do… So, take your Senior Trip as your motivation to push through and do the best you can on those last few tests and assignments.

Stage 2: Anger

“Why is this teacher assigning a group project in March?”

Everything and everyone is suddenly annoying. The Wi-Fi, your schedule, that one person who reminds the teacher about homework. You’re ready to scream into your backpack. And yeah… it is possible that your teacher WILL assign you a group project in March. Annoying? For sure. BUT, maybe you’ll make some friends who will also go on your grad trip? Maybe?

Grad Trip Fix: If that March group project really does happen, channel that rage into dancing it out at one of your Grad Trip events. Trust us… nothing cures school frustration like a night out with your friends.

Stage 3: Bargaining

“If I finish this essay, I’ll totally deserve a new fit for my senior trip.”

You start making deals with yourself. Do one assignment, watch three episodes. Write two sentences, open your trip countdown app.

Grad Trip Fix: Make your future self proud! Finish all of your assignments so that you can party in paradise worry-free.

Stage 4: Depression

“Is it June yet?”

Every day feels like the longest day of your life. You’re tired, unmotivated, and your brain is begging for a break. Senioritis has fully taken over.

Grad Trip Fix: Light at the end of the tunnel = your GradCity Trip. Start planning your outfits, playlists, and roommate selfies. We promise it’ll lift your mood instantly.

Stage 5: Acceptance

“I’ve done enough. It’s time to celebrate.”

There’s still a few months left of school, and now you fully understand it. We’re proud of you. Instead of complaining every day about going to school, look at it this way: you’ll never be a senior again. You’ll also never be at school with all these people ever again. Soak it in, be grateful, and enjoy every last minute of it.

Grad Trip Fix: This is your victory lap. You’re done with school, your friends are all together, and your only assignment left is to have the best week of your life.
